Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He rescued four initial opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
