Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
